I taught the children about 'slings'—primitive artillery. I fashioned a simple pouch from a piece of the Iron Skin Beast's inner hide and attached two sturdy cords made of braided vines. I showed them how to place a stone in the pouch, whirl it around, and release one cord. The stone flew with a whistle, striking the tree trunk with a crack that echoed through the village. The children's eyes went wide. They immediately began competing to see who could hit the furthest target, their natural strength making the stones as lethal as bullets.
